Kia Ora – Welcome

Congratulations – you’re having a baby!

Welcome to birthEd, where you’ll find the information you need to best prepare you for pregnancy, labour, birth and the first weeks as new parents, all based in the Wellington region. Our series of courses are designed to meet the needs of first time parents who want to be informed about the normal birth process and how they can best support the birth of their baby, establish successful breastfeeding and be prepared to become new parents.

What a year 2020 has been!

At birthEd we’re making some changes for the better, so that we can bring YOU more of what you want! In 2021, you will have more opportunities to learn about having your baby and taking care of you and your new family.

2021 is an exciting year to have a baby, and birthEd’s professional and passionate team will be right alongside you. We are so looking forward to meeting YOU!

Our goal is to continue to deliver a great range of valuable courses. To achieve this, we need to begin to charge for some courses. This will enable us to expand our course offering, while maintaining the same high quality childbirth and early parenting education. Our HVDHB funded courses will remain free to women who have a Community Services Card.

We remain committed to ensuring the best face-to-face training is available to you, by maintaining our small class sizes.

Our Story

Our story began in 2004 with a local midwife and an educator who were aware of the need for top quality, accessible and friendly childbirth classes in the Hutt Valley and Wellington regions. They became passionate about designing a set of courses that would meet the needs of parents of different ages and cultural backgrounds. Today birthEd has a team of midwives, childbirth and lactation educators who are constantly updating their knowledge and skills to bring participants the latest information. Each birthEd course facilitator has been trained not only as a midwife and/or childbirth educator, but in the birthEd philosophy and attitude of acceptance, and in creating an atmosphere of relaxation and fun. birthEd is proud to have such a professional, innovative and passionate team of educators who want to inform and empower parents to give them the best start to their parenting journey. This is in keeping with our philosophy, mission and vision.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide excellence in education through a comprehensive inter-active programme encompassing pregnancy, birth and parenting. We aim to promote, support and encourage natural birth; well-informed, self-empowered parents and healthy, breast-fed babies.
