Description

Be Prepared & Know How To Respond

Please note: As of the 1st January 2021, this course will be open to all Wellington Families! This course is not restricted to families from the Hutt Valley.

We believe that CPR and child choking procedures are some of the most important skills to learn when becoming a new parent. Along with CPR, you will learn 6 principles to follow, to protect your baby’s life and takeaway key  baby safety messages.

If you’ve learned CPR before, this course is also a great refresher to get up-to-date.

This course is taught by both a fully trained Red Cross Instructor and a skilled birthEd educator.

What you will learn in this 3 hour course:

  • To make every sleep a safe sleep (SUDI prevention)
  • Safe scene management and assessment of an emergency situation
  • Airway obstruction and infant choking (practice on a baby mannequin)
  • Child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (practice on a baby mannequin)
  • What’s an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and how to use one
  • Safe side positioning
  • Dealing with a crying baby
  • Anger and stress management
  • Signs of a sick baby
  • Car seat safety
  • Baby carriers
  • Baby safety at home – prevention of falls, burns, poisoning
  • Community support organisations

At birthEd we want to create the best learning environment we can for you and our small class sizes mean that you’ll get an opportunity to have one-on-one training and have your questions answered. You will receive our Key Takeaways Information and a CPR form for your fridge.

We recommend that you attend this course while pregnant, but if you’ve had your baby, please bring them along!
