BE PREPARED   +   KNOW HOW TO RESPOND

Please note: As of the 1st January 2021, this course will be open to all Wellington Families!

Keeping You Informed: We now have new courses up on our website for early 2021. We’ve been making some changes, so that we can bring you more of what you want! You will have more opportunities to learn about having your baby, and taking care of you and your new family. Our goal is to still continue to deliver a great range of valuable courses. To achieve this, we need to begin to charge for some courses. This will enable us to expand our course offering, while maintaining the same high quality childbirth and early parenting education. Our HVDHB funded courses will remain free to women, in the Hutt Valley, who have a Community Services Card.  As of the 1st of November some courses may incur a fee, whereas bookings made prior to this date are unlikely to have incurred a fee.  We remain committed to ensuring the best face-to-face training is available to you, by maintaining our small class sizes. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch,

Our Keeping Your Baby Safe course will give you the confidence and skills you need to respond to your baby in an emergency. Knowing what to do in an emergency could save your child’s life!

We believe that CPR and child choking procedures are some of the most important skills to learn when becoming a new parent. Along with CPR, you will learn 6 principles to follow to protect your baby’s life and key takeaway baby safety messages.

If you’ve learned CPR before, this course is also a great refresher to get up to date.

This course is taught by both a fully trained Red Cross Instructor and a skilled birthEd educator.

What this 3 hour course covers:

Some of what you will learn:

  • To make every sleep a safe sleep (SUDI prevention)
  • Safe scene management and assessment of an emergency situation
  • Airway obstruction and infant choking (practice on a baby mannequin)
  • Child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (practice on a baby mannequin)
  • What’s an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and how to use one
  • Safe side positioning
