Young Mums

Announcement: We are very sorry to inform you that we are no longer funded, to provide pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and early parenting education, by the Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast District Health Boards. This unfortunately means that, at the moment, we are unable to offer you many of our courses. We do have some spaces left on a few courses for the remainder of 2021 – please take a look. We are sorry if you are unable to find what you are looking for. We are going to take some time to regroup and make some changes. Please check back with us in early 2022.

We offer ‘Your Birth Essentials – a one day course’ in a young mum friendly way. This course is specifically for younger women under 24 years old (and their support partner), and are taught at Youth Centres and Teen Parenting Schools, where the atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed and fun! Come and join us on this one day course and meet like-minded new mums on a similar pregnancy and parenting journey as you!

Some of the topics covered during this course:

  • Your pregnant and birthing body
  • Labour overview and stages
  • Birth choices
  • Self-help during labour and birth
  • Pain management
  • Medical intervention
  • Breastfeeding
  • After the birth
  • Caring for your baby – bathing, dressing, sleeping, soothing and loving (and more!)
  • Postnatal depression and taking care of you
  • Where to get help? Support and help services

This course is currently being taught at:

  • Greenstone Doors (Lower Hutt)

Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is provided

Keeping You Informed:  The funding we have received from the Hutt Valley District Health Board over the last 17 years is sadly coming to an end on the 30th of September 2021. This unfortunately means that we will be unable to continue to offer this course to women and their support partners in the Hutt Valley after this time.
